Magdalena Dobromila Rettigová, a writer and a prominent person of the Czech national movement. Since the publication of her famous Home Cookbook in 1826, there has not been a better-known Czech recipe book. Overnearly 200 years, it was re-published repeatedly. Magdalena Dobromila Rettigová influenced the character of Czech cuisine and dining culture. She introduced a number of previously unknown cooking procedures into the Czech usage and significantly expanded the Czech vocabulary. She often invented the recipes herself and tested them on her husband. She ran courses, explained and lectured. However, she was far from being an author of cooking recipes only. She wrote patriotic short stories, poems and even humorous pieces, quite successful in her time.
