Hana Podolská

(1880-1972)

Hana Podolská was a fashion designer, legend of Czech fashion, owner of a popular fashion salon in Prague. A pioneer of fashion shows, for which she employed the first professional fashion models. The biggest Czech movie stars and important personalities of social life donned her imaginative and elegant luxury models. Her customers included, for example, car racer Eliška Junková or first lady Hana Benešová. Her Podolská Model House survived the German occupation of World War II, but the communists nationalized it after their coup in February 1948 and turned the owner into a saleswoman. Her name remains a symbol of the best of Czech fashion from the 1920s to the 1940s.
